J’ai tendu des cordes de clocher à clocher;
Des guirlandes de fenêtre à fenêtre;
Des chaînes d’or d’étoile à ètoile;
Et je danse!
(I hung cords from bell to bell, garlands from window to window, golden chains from star to star, and I dance!)
From Les Illuminations by Paul Verlaine
Light designer Alex de Witte and Soetekouw have been working together to create a 15 meter light cord that is wrapped with two kilos of self-spun yarn of animal-friendly silk. They introduced it during the Dutch Design Week in 2018. Putting the light inside the silk, really brings out the character of silk.
Since Soetekouw discovered Alex’s Big Bubble lamp she has become a big fan of his work. It goes perfectly with her designs. The organic forms, playing and experimenting with form and material and unexpected color explosions characterize both designers. Both love traditional work and their designs are on the cutting edge of art and design. Their work shows a poetic, dreamy view of the world.In 2016 they had a joint exhibition at Ventura Lambrate in Milan. It was only a matter of time before this first collaboration came about.
De Witte was immediately inspired by the subtle warmth of the spun material. “I love poetry and simplicity and great impact. This is clearly reflected in the simplicity of the result of this collaboration ”.
