Skinn

A textile collection designed in a world surrounded by the most inspiring creatures and microscopic structures, where jellyfish glow in the dark and purple producing sea snails thrive among rocks and corals.

For the Skinn collection I was  inspired by the environment, the beauty of nature but also the damage we do to nature. With this collection I zoom in on organic structures we are not immediately aware of; Take fungi, the mud in a pond, or algae and bacteria in the sea.

The Skinn collection also refers to the dogwhelks, also called purple snails, a sea snail.  A couple of centuries ago, we used them for our purple dyes. Nowadays they are an important indicator for the ecological functioning of the North Sea; Skinn Wall is also a microscopic magnification of the eggs deposited by dogwhelks on the seabed.
