Van de Wiele is a Belgium based company that imagines, builds and integrates innovative textile systems for flooring qualities, home linen, fashion fabrics and technical fabrics. Van de Wiele asked Soetekouw to make a design to show the new techniques of one of their machines. The technique is called leno, it is one of the oldest gauze weaves. Gauze is seen a light , or sheer cloth. The Leno weave was called a “fance Gauze”. Leno can be defined as twisted warps with a doubled or heavier weft thread than that of a gauze.
With this technique Roos developed a pattern inspired by the contour lines on a map.
